Thomas Jefferson noted the "Lychnis bloom" at Shadwell in 1767, he was probably referring to the wooly-leaved, self-seeding Rose Campion. Brilliant magenta, neon pink, coloring contrasts with silver gray, woolly leaves on bushy branching stems. An easy to grow, long-blooming and low maintenance plant, great for dry, neglected spots in the garden. Very old plant being know as far back as 2,000 years.
