This variety of daikon is referred to as a biodrill or tillage radish. This variety forms huge soil nutrient churning roots which can reach far into the soil to reclaim nitrogen, moisture, and other nutrients. Harvested roots leave large holes in the ground which assists in water infiltration and collection and soil aeration. They suppress weed growth and are a quick canopy cover, especially from August / September sowings. Once planted in late summer, the radishes are harvested lightly for consumption, but the vast majority of them are left to die off in the winter and start to decay, which will leave all of those nutrients behind for spring tilling and plantings. The extra long, 10-20 inch roots make them nutrient accumulators, which your spring plantings dearly need.
