This Asclepias is a good choice for its early bloom in order to feed Monarch butterflies as they arrive back into the US, especially the Monarch.They have a range from the deep southwest of Texas up into the northern parts or Nebraska and as far as West Virginia, and the southeast coastline of the US.
Like all Milkweed the seeds need cold stratification.Since it is a shorter milkweed than the other varieties it is a nice accent for the front of your beds.If you are starting them in seeds trays do not let the root become too long as it will have the possibility of having transplant shock because it has a tap root. To if you are moving from indoors to out in your garden beds, then dig your holes a little deeper so you can add the softer soil before you plant the pots.
