Vermont Cranberry Beans

Description

An heirloom of New England origins dating back to the 1780’s. It is a dwarf type French bush bean. Great pest and disease resistance. Heirloom and open pollinated.

In order to dry the beans, you leave the pods on on the plants until pods are dry, brown, and crisp, and beans are hard and rattle in pod, if more drying is needed when danger of frost has arrived, pull entire plant and hang upside down to dry further. Before storing, test a bean by hitting it with a small hammer and if it shatters it is ready to store but if it mushes out – flat – it needs to dry some more.
