Description

The herb is used to make Moxa, burned over acupuncture points to quicken the blood It is in flower from July to September and the flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs) and are pollinated by the wind. They have been used as a flavoring in beer, but fell into virtual disuse once hops came into favor. It is one of the nine herbs invoked in the Pagan Anglo-Saxon Nine Herbs Charm, recorded in the 10th century in the “Lacnunga” (Anglo-Saxon medical texts and prayers written mainly in Old English and Latin).
